Situated at the very apex of the Swiss, German and French borders, Basel is fast becoming a popular tourist destination for travellers wanting to take in the unique architecture and culture that Basel alone has to offer.  Located at the centre of what is known as the Dreiländereck (three countries corner), Basel is an ideal base for exploring the Black Forest in nearby Germany, the Alsace region in nearby France, and the beautiful Jura Mountains to the south.  Basel itself also has many intriguing sights to offer visitors, including the Basel Munster, the Basel Rathaus (the Town Hall), and the Gates to the Walled City which include St. Johanns Tor and St. Albans Tor.  The city has a large array of museums including the Kuntsmuseum Basel (Basel Art Museum) and the Natural History Museum.  Known for having a rich cultural scene that incorporates one of the largest Carnival celebrations (Basel Fasnacht) in the world, Basel has several highly regarded theatres and music venues as well as being one of the best European towns to indulge in the café culture.

Basel is serviced by the EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, a complex which is located three kilometres to the north of Basel, just inside the French border.  The airport, although situated entirely on French soil, has both a Swiss and a French customs zone.  Several airlines fly into the busy international terminal, including British Airways from London, Easy Jet, Ryan Air and Swiss Airways.  Both the French and the Swiss sectors offer car hire services from Avis, National, Sixt, Hertz and Europcar, so it is important to note which side of the airport you are supposed to collect your car from to avoid confusion.
